Tolling Operations
Please be on alert if you recevie a text message requesting toll payments. It is a nationwide "smishing" scam. GeauxPass does not use SMS texts to request toll payments.
DOTD operates GeauxPass, a statewide toll system for roads and bridges. GeauxPass allows travelers to enjoy non-stop driving on Louisiana toll roads through a convenient pre-paid tag installed in their vehicle or invoiced using Toll-By-Plate. To keep you on your way and reduce traffic, DOTD has an all-electronic tolling system allowing GeauxPass account holders to pay tolls using their online accounts. Vehicles with GeauxPass tags are identified by the Automatic Vehicle Identification system. Cameras capture pictures of license plates for customers without a pre-paid GeauxPass account. This Toll-By-Plate system allows those customers to receive an invoice by mail at the address where the vehicle is registered. There is a difference in pricing without a toll tag, see toll fees below.
DOTD operates the LA 1 Bridge between Leeville and Port Fourchon in Lafourche and Jefferson Parish going towards Grand Isle. The LA 1 Expressway is an elevated eleven-mile highway and the sole land route from Leeville to Port Fourchon. Construction is underway to expand the elevated highway an additional eight miles to Golden Meadow. This expansion will provide a more convenient evacuation route during hurricane and flooding events, a more reliable shipping route, and increased accessibility opportunities for tourism.
The replacement Belle Chasse Bridge on the West Bank of New Orleans in Plaquemines Parish. The new Belle Chasse Bridge replaces the moveable Belle Chasse Bridge and Belle Chasse Tunnel which are both over 50 years old. The new bridge is an all-electronic toll road that utilizes the existing GeauxPass tag system and Toll-By-Plate option. Both vehicles and marine traffic have more seamless commutes since the bridge does not lift to accommodate boats. Demolition of the existing bridge and tunnel is projected to be complete by 2026.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge is not operated by DOTD. The Causeway Toll Tag may be used to travel on the LA 1 Bridge.
