Traffic Management Centers
Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has six Traffic Management Centers located throughout the state. The functions of the TMCs are to deliver traveler-focused and performance-driven services which facilitate reliable and safe movement of people and goods within Louisiana. Our TMCs work in conjunction with our Motor Assistance Patrol program to help maximize roadway throughput and efficiency, minimize impacts of roadway incidents, and assist incident and emergency response agencies and personnel.
The TMCs are located in Baton Rouge, including the Baton Rouge regional TMC and statewide TMC, Houma, Lake Charles, New Orleans and Shreveport. These offices create and disseminate information to travelers via the 511 app and X (formerly Twitter).
Operators use ATMS iNet map-based software to control and monitor field devices such as Closed-Circuit Television cameras, Dynamic Message Sign, ramp meters, log potential and confirmed incidents, construction, and maintenance closures, use Global Positioning System enabled software to monitor the location of MAP vehicles, directing resources to where they are needed, and any other technology related to devices that may form part of an Intelligent Transportation System.
Operators also monitor video images for the detection and verification of incidents such as debris, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills.
