Approved Materials List (AML)

Information from the Approved Materials List is pulled from the SiteManager database in real time.  The database is maintained by the DOTD Materials Section for use by the Department of Transportation and Development.  Its purpose is to make the Approved Materials List of products available to construction and maintenance personnel for use on Department projects.

The inclusion of a product on the Approved Materials List is not a blanket approval for the use of that product in a Department project, as all products are still subject to all other project requirements.  This list shall be used in conjunction with the Materials Sampling Manual, Standard Specifications, Supplemental Specifications, Special Provisions, Maintenance Specifications, plans, and all supplementary documents effective at the time of usage. Extra care should be taken to ensure that reference is made to the Approved Materials List at the time of usage and/or the letting date of the contract.

Recent browser updates are forcing some pages to open as secure pages, which may cause the pages to fail in the current setup on our server.  OTS is working to correct this.  A quick solution is to copy the web link directly (right-click and copy link text) or add/update the beginning of the web address with "http://" instead of blank or "https://"

General Information

The Approved Materials List is maintained by the Department as part of the Quality Assurance program for construction materials. The Materials and Testing Section is responsible for updating and maintaining the Materials List and for evaluating most new products for inclusion in this listing. The AML listings on the Materials and Testing Section website pull information from the SiteManager database in real time and include the latest updates. The AML was developed to list materials that may require extensive sampling and testing, source audits, performance evaluation, in-service evaluation, long-term testing, etc. The AML provides for a thorough evaluation to indicate that a source is capable of producing a material conforming to DOTD specifications. After the initial evaluation and placement on the AML, only limited testing and/or certification are usually required to verify continued conformance to specifications.

A qualification procedure has been established for each Approved Materials List. This procedure contains a list of information required from the manufacturer of the product such as an AML submittal form, sample size, typical laboratory testing time, typical field testing time, tests performed, specification requirements, and project acceptance requirements. Manufacturer’s representatives who wish to have products placed on the Approved Materials List must submit the Approved Materials List Form, all information listed in the qualification procedure, and a sample to the proper AML coordinator at the Materials and Testing Section. A list of AML contacts is located on the Materials Lab Website under Approved Materials List.
