Intelligent Transportation Systems
DOTD has taken a leadership role in the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems to improve the operations of the state's transportation systems as well as facilitate Louisiana's unique needs for hurricane related emergency evacuation.
ITS provides various important services to the public. Among these services are the 511 website (511la.org) and mobile app (iOS and Android) that provide DOTD camera feeds in combination with other information such as road closures to the travelling public.
DOTD DOES NOT RECORD CAMERA FEEDS. THE CAMERA FEEDS ARE LIVE FEEDS AND NEVER RECORDED BY DOTD.
Another important service is the Motorist Assistance Patrol. These patrols provide important services to the public by arriving at the scene of an incident to speed the clearing process and provide assistance to disabled vehicles when able.
Our regional Traffic Management Centers monitor the roadways using the camera feeds provided to them and other first responders via the Advanced Traffic Management System and the first responder Video Distribution Management System page. These feeds, in coordination with MAP, allow for quick response, deployment and clearing of traffic incidents to help restore traffic flow to normal levels and assist disabled vehicles with services provided by MAP.
ITS also provides other important functions and services. For information on these as well as our plans for the future, please see the other pages listed in the column to the left.
