About Us
The Office of Multimodal Commerce was created in July 2016 by Act 719 of the 2014 Regular Session. The Commissioner of Multimodal Commerce is a direct appointment by the Governor and oversees four sections of alternate transportation. As the name indicates, this office is focused on commerce through infrastructure improvements for Louisiana’s ports and waterways, airports and aeronautics facilities and passenger and short line railroads.
The office administers several funding programs related to strategic and intermodal issues, and any other special programs as may be directed by the governor. In addition to funding programs, planning and oversight of port development, waterways improvement, aviation and advanced aeronautics safety and development are an additional focus of this office.
In addition to state highways and bridges, Louisiana’s multimodal transportation system is strategically located along the Mississippi River, the Gulf of America, 6 class 1 railroads, 16 short line railroads and 68 airports. The Office of Multimodal Commerce continues to strengthen the connectivity to keep commerce flowing in and out of Louisiana.
